Richard St. Pierre
· Is a fishery management biologist
for 29 years with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the principal conservation
agency of the U.S. Department of the Interior.
· Is the federal program coordinator and chairman of the technical
committee and oversees the multi-agency migratory fish restoration effort
on the Susquehanna River in Maryland, Pennsylvania and New York.
· Chairs the Fish Passage Workgroup of the Chesapeake Bay Program
using matching federal funds to reopen more than 1,000 miles of dammed
tributary streams to anadromous fish spawning runs in the Chesapeake watershed
(115 projects completed through 2001).
· Chairs the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission's Atlantic
Sturgeon Culture and Stocking Committee.
· Chairs the Ecology and Environment Subcommittee of the Sturgeon
Specialists Group of the IUCN-The World Conservation Union.
· Is this country's principal negotiator for a fishery exchange
program between the United States and China.
· Is a trustee of the Shad Foundation and has received several
special achievement awards from the Department of the Interior (including
the agency's Meritorious Service Award), the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service,
the Chesapeake Bay Program, and the American Fisheries Society.
· Was the 2000 recipient of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation's Conservationist
of the Year award.
