Achievements
Dr. Bill Harman has contributed significantly to aquatic research, including concerns
related to invasive species. To date, he as contributed to 198 technical and
has several ongoing publication projects. Dr. Harman also is actively involved
in public information and education projects because he understands the importance
of raising public awareness of the lake’s unique ecosystem.

Among his many achievements, Dr. Harman led the acquisition of 44 years of data that has enabled Otsego Lake to be used as an Ecological Reference site and served as the foundation for the Otsego Lake Watershed Management Plan. Dr. Harman also succeeded in getting the nation’s first Master of Science Program for Lake Management started at SUNY Oneonta. The MS program is for students who:
(1) want to learn more about preserving lake quality; (2) are concerned about impacts from invasive species; and (3) want to be aquatic resources manager.

Among his many affiliations, Dr. Harman belongs to the NY State Federation of Lake
Associations, the Northeast Aquatic Nuisance Species Panel, the NY State Invasive
Species Task Force, and on the Board of the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, just
to name a few.
