A public television station from northeast Pennsylvania, WVIA, has produced an original documentary on the Susquehanna River called Looking to the River. The film, which already premiered on WVIA, is being distributed to PBS affiliates throughout the Susquehanna basin to ensure much broader viewing. While the focus is intended to be on the Middle region of the Susquehanna River, the film does appeal to viewers throughout the watershed.

Looking to the River is a one-hour documentary film that examines critical contemporary issues pertaining to the Susquehanna River's Middle Basin-economic development, environmental protection, and cultural preservation-through their connection to the profound history and heritage of the river and its 27,000 square-mile watershed.

The Susquehanna River has always drawn humans to its banks and to its basin in search of life. For ten thousand years, man's imagination and imperfection have entwined with nature's irresistible forces to create a human and natural history that relentlessly shapes this river and the lives of those who reside near it.

Through a blend of authoritative content and distinctive imagery, the film seeks to provide viewers with the knowledge that the Susquehanna River is the key to renewed economic prosperity and revitalized quality of life in their communities.
